retail sell-through in year one

Nocturne roasts between midnight and six, and until we met them the brand looked like every other craft roaster on the shelf: kraft paper, a stamp, a story about a farmer.

The brief

Stand out on a shelf full of beige, without spending more on print. The founders also wanted something their night-shift crew would actually wear.

The system

We built the identity around one moon that changes phase with each roast level, so the mark doubles as the flavour guide. A tall serif keeps it adult, and the packaging uses a single ink on black stock, which cut print costs by a fifth.

What changed

Sell-through in independent retail rose 38% in the first year. Staff now order the merch themselves, and the moon has been tattooed at least twice that we know of.
